Promoting environmental sustainability through plotter paper cores

Eco Friendly Product StickerIf you have watched any TV lately, you have no doubt seen one of those commercials with the new electric cars and charging stations. Like it or not, we live in a sustainable world.

Since we heavily promote Océ brand equipment, environmentally friendly solutions are often a big part of our pitch. (Go here to read more about the Océ stance on the environment)

So, to reinforce our position on eco-friendly plotters and systems, TAVCO initiated a "Paper-Core Recycling Program" in November 2008.

Reasons for recycling plotter paper cores

1 of 4 Tree Hugger Dawn Beattie Claims Her tree 14July2010.
  • Every roll of large format paper (ink jet and toner) will have a hard compressed cardboard core left behind as waste
  • While the core is recyclable, not all recycling centers will accept them
  • The highly compressed cardboard can be a difficult item to recycle

Our Action Plan

  • Within our service area, we will pick up your paper cores and recycle them responsibly whether you do business with us or not
  • We do this service free of charge - we consider it a community service
  • Companies that recycle can request a report to claim LEED credit at the end of the calender year

The Stats

  • Beginning of program - November 2008
  • Total cores collected so far - over 2,900
  • Highest performing recycling company - United Forming (307 cores as of today)
